It’s not just a Catchphrase

In Think by Dieter Randolph

Freedom is a choice. You’ve heard me say this if you’ve spent more than five minutes with me. I can’t help it. That concept is at the core of everything I do, and I’ve been saying it for so long that I can’t remember when I started.

It means exactly what you think it means. No matter where you have been or what you’ve done, what happens next comes from the choice you make right now. There is something inside you that is bigger and stronger than anything, than everything outside you. Maybe you have challenges to overcome and problems to solve. But the solution comes, and can only come, when you know that you have the power to change your mind. You are the sole proprietor there; nobody else has any say unless you give it. You have the power to change your heart. And that’s where real transformation begins. Everything else is secondary; a byproduct.

I’m writing this on the Third of July. Tomorrow is a national celebration of independence, of freedom from tyranny, of our union’s birthday. I love a parade as much as the next guy, but it may be that we can take the festivities to another level.

Let’s put the emphasis on that first syllable. Let’s practice in-dependence. May tomorrow, and every day after that, be a celebration of what it means to be truly free. You are free from the tyranny of the past and mistakes of the past. You are free from external circumstance and from the opinions of others. You are not your possessions, your achievements, or the apparent lack thereof. Tomorrow, and forever more, you know the Truth. And it has made you free.
